The Maryland World Class Consortia holds regular meetings each quarter for members, potential members, supporters, and guests.  Each meeting is a half-day "mini-seminar" that provide new developments among Consortia members, examples of World Class tools in action, and networking with active practitioners.  Continental breakfast and lunch are included.

This quarter's meeting agenda:

8:00 a.m.  - Registration and continental breakfast

8:30 a.m.  - Consortia news and business

9:45 a.m.  - Greg Fields, Bridgewright Mgmt.

11:00 a.m.- Don Wagner, Lycoming Engines

Mr. Fields' presentation, "Top 10 Killer Kaizen Concepts", is designed to inspire lean leaders.  Greg identifies the tin killer concepts that are key to kaizen event excellence and humorously explains their importance to achieving performance and financial results.  Kaizen events are the most popular lean improvement technique used today.  However, without the right planning, execution, and follow-up, they can be an academic exercise with no measureable or sustainable change.  Learn from a seasoned practitioner how to deliver killer kaizen events with strong and lasting benefits!

Mr. Wagner is V.P. of Operations for Lycoming Engines, a division of Avco Corporation.  Early this decade, Lycoming Engines struggled with quality, supply chain, union labor issues, and more. On January 1st 2005, a new leadership team put lean at the centerpiece of their turnaround transformation. Since that time, they have achieved dramatic results, including:

  • Improved manufacturing quality by 61%
  • Improved lost time injuries by 86%
  • On-time delivery improvement from 40% to 100%
  • Received numerous customer awards and a Shingo Prize Silver Medallion

Mr. Wagner will explain details of how Lycoming achieved its remarkable turnaround and discuss lessons that apply to all businesses striving for performance excellence.
