The Maryland World Class Consortia holds regular meetings each quarter for members, potential members, supporters, and guests.  Each meeting is a half-day "mini-conference" that provide new developments among Consortia members, examples of World Class tools in action, and networking with active practitioners.  This quarter's meeting will feature:

Steven Johnson, formerly of Renaissance Marble, has done a remarkable job in applying lean in a job shop environment.  Many organizations have  job shop-style flow: work areas where each work item has unique characteristics, resource requirements, and flow patterns.  Think: hospital emergency rooms, customer service operations, custom engineering firms, or craft producers of just about any kind.  Steve will describe how lean concepts and tools have been used to streamline production and optimize results for a common, real world situation.  His discussion is sure to change and expand your appreciation for lean methods!

Lean deployment grows new and better capabilities, and it demands them, too.  Lean requires a greater ability to write, communicate, and execute organizational strategy.  What is your “standard work” for long- and short-range strategy?  How do you best communicate strategy down through the organization, and execution information back up?  How should you continuously assess strategy execution and then adjust?  Kelly Petrock of the General Systems Consulting Group will explore these issues and offer practical tools to help leaders at any level in a lean organization to align and strengthen their organization’s lean deployment.
