Lean practitioners understand the central importance of standard work: It establishes the baseline against which normal performance is measured.  Deviation from baseline identifies problems, making standard work the cornerstone of kaizen (continuous improvement).  As Taichi Ohno, one of the fathers of lean production put it, “Without a standard, there can be no improvement.”

All too often, standard work fails, or falls into disrepair.  One of the key reasons for this backsliding is that operator standard work is not supported by leader standard work.  But what is “leader standard work” exactly?  What does it look like?  How is it designed and maintained?

In this afternoon workshop following the MWCC May 2011 quarterly meeting, leaders at all levels of the organization will learn the key concepts of leader standard work and how to use it to support operator standard work, get hands-on examples and tools, and strengthen and accelerate lean deployment with true continuous improvement at its core.

Your facilitator will be author, consultant,
and Shingo Prize award winner, Drew Locher of Change Management Associates.  Mr. Locher is one of the country’s foremost experts on lean in service industries and processes off the factory floor.  Drew co-authored The Complete Lean Enterprise, which won the prestigious Shingo Prize for describing value stream mapping for the office.
