The Lean Facilitator Certification Program
Description:
The Maryland World Class Consortia's Lean Facilitator Certification Program (LFCP) develops the skills and knowledge needed by internal change agents to plan, execute, and sustain business process improvements using lean tools and principles.
The LFCP design offers two options, an Academic Track, and a Full Track. The Academic Track is comprised of ten learning modules deployed over 8 months. Participants meet once per month for two to three days and complete classroom and hands-on exercises in the following topics:
- Module 1: Getting Started with Lean Change
- Program Orientation (1 day)
- Building the Case for Change (1 day)
- Leading Change (1 day)
- Module 2: Planning Lean Improvement
- Overview of Lean (1 day)
- Value Stream Mapping (2 days)
- Module 3: Improving Performance with Lean - Part 1
- Standard Work, 5S and Visual Management (1 day)
- Problem-Solving Tools (1 day)
- Module 4: Improving Performance with Lean - Part 2
- Inventory Kanbans and Lean Supply Chain (1 day)
- Kaizen Event Preparation and Facilitation (1 day)
- Module 5: Leading Change - Part 1
- Leadership Development (2 days)
- Team Building (1 day)
- Module 6: Improving Performance with Lean - Part 3
- Manufacturing Cells (1 day)
- Module 7: Improving Performance with Lean - Part 4
- Setup Reduction (1 day)
- Error-Proofing (1/2 day)
- Total Productive Maintenance (1/2 day)
- Module 8: Leading Change - Part 2
- Advanced Team Building (1 day)
- Module 9: Advanced Topics
- Baselining and Business Improvement Planning (2 days)
- Module 10: Effective Communication
- Presentation Skills (1/2 day)
- Meeting Facilitation (1/2 day)

The Full Track of the program adds support for a student-designed Capstone Project. The Full Track course takes one full year to complete.
The Lean Facilitator Certification Program is generally offered once per year.
